It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 7 - 11 working days More than a million Jews escaped east from Nazi occupied Poland to Soviet occupied Poland. There they suffered extreme deprivation in Siberian gulags and "Special Settlements" and then, once "liberated," journeyed to the Soviet Central Asian Republics. The majority of Polish Jews who survived the Nazis outlived the war in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan; some of them continued on to Iran. The story of their suffering, both those who died and those who survived, has rarely been told. Following the footsteps of her father, one of a thousand refugee children who traveled to Iran and later to Palestine, Dekel fuses memoir with historical investigation in this account of the all-but-unknown Jewish refuge in Muslim lands. Along the way, Dekel reveals the complex global politics behind this journey, discusses refugee aid and hospitality, and traces the making of collective identities that have shaped the postwar world-the histories nations tell and those they forget. Features Summary The extraordinary true story of Polish-Jewish child refugees who escaped the Nazis and found refuge in Iran. South Africa (All cities)
Hardcover, first published 1963 by Hutchinson. The card jacket is whole, but has some wear to the edges, and a few small holes and scrapes on the folds, possibly caused by insects. The brown boards with three blue wildebeest imprinted on the bottom are clean and unmarked and square. The first and last few pages have some light age-spottting, that also appears in places on the collective edge of the pages. The author has dedicated and signed the title page, at Knysna, undated. From the jacket blurb "First and foremost, The Echoing Cliffs is an enchanting story. It is about the last cave-dwellers of the Stone Age who, by a freak of history, still survived a mere three centuries ago, when the first white men landed in South Africa."

In the sprawling, embattled land of Midkemia, fate can form strange alliances. Nine years into the bloody and ongoing Riftwar, Dennis Hartraft's Marauders are cold, hungry, and exhausted. Having only just survived a disastrous encounter with their sworn enemy, the Tsurani, the soldiers are headed for a frontier garrison, where they will be able to rest and recover. But Hartraft's company arrives at the same time as a Tsurani patrol, and both sides discover the stronghold overrun by a migrating horde of dark elves called moredhel, a foe so deadly and vicious the bitter enemies must band together and fight as one. But can their hatred for their mutual enemy overcome their distrust of each other? As the two groups, bound to each other by their common foe, make their way across the unknown Northlands to freedom, they have to struggle with not only the elements and the enemy, but also their consciences. For, with both sides carrying painful scars from past wars, each man must ask himself what is more important: one's life or one's honor? This product ships within 3-5 working days.

Following Reyna Diaz's death at the hands of the Swarm (in Gears of War 4), Kait seals her mother's tomb and swears revenge. As she, JD, Del, Marcus, Cole, Samantha, and Baird lick their wounds and resupply, First Minister Jinn summons them to New Ephyra, promising that the "crimes" they committed will be forgiven. Before they can rejoin the Coalition, however, Jinn demands proof of their loyalty, and of the threat of the Swarm. Promised a new command, JD and Del agree. Plagued by nightmares, Kait rebels and refuses. When she discovers that two teens from her devastated village have survived, she goes rogue and strikes out to rescue them, accompanied by Marcus Fenix. Pursued by the robotic DeeBees, Kait and Marcus search for survivors. Instead they find an overwhelming force of the enemy-and an unexpected ally. Meanwhile JD and Del lead a mission to locate the Swarm, only to be cut off from New Ephyra. Trapped and surrounded, they're on their own. Picking up where Gears of War 4 left off, GEARS OF WAR: ASCENDANCE is the official, action-packed bridge between that game and Gears 5.
