I devised this course, so as to; provide voice and communication training for male-to-female (MtF) clients and for female-to-male (FtM) clients. In general, men and women communicate differently. For example, most men tend to speak with lower pitched voices, while women use higher pitched voices. Women often use more gestures when they speak. Men may use shorter sentences that get more to the point. Individuals who are transgender/transsexual often elect to have voice and communication therapy to help them use their voice in a safe way and communicate more like the opposite gender of that in which they were born. Benefits: • A chance to practice vocal skills in a conversational context. • Increased confidence and self-advocacy in a safe, inviting environment. • The opportunity to share information about the transgender community. • An occasion to interact with other women around shared experiences. • An important interaction between skill-building and relationship-building in the therapeutic process. • Establishing emotional expression and intensity levels when communicating. The Visual Arts Network of South Africa (VANSA), with the support of the Department of Arts and Culture (DAC) is pleased to announce the launch of the Best Practice Guide for the Visual Arts in South Africa. The Best Practice Guide was developed out of the need to share and develop industry practices that would support healthy and ethical relationships and transactions between practitioners in the industry. The guide is written to give all people involved in the visual arts an understanding of the practice South Africa should be aiming towards for the betterment of the Visual Arts. Commissioned by the Department of Arts and Culture and written by Visual Arts Network of South Africa, the Guide is intended to support a growing and strengthening Visual Arts field. The content of the guide is extensive and covers as many fields as possible to be as accessible as possible to all. It covers a range from sales, to insurance, to taxes, to marketing and social media to the rights of practitioners in the field. We expect it will be invaluable for many people to better empower themselves to make knowledgeable decisions. The Director of VANSA, Molemo Moiloa, comments on important content in the Guide; “We are very excited to launch this guide and make it available to the South African Visual Arts Community. The Guide is aimed at giving people as much information as possible so that they can take the paths they wish to, equipped with an understanding of where those paths may lead”. The guide strongly recommends the use of written agreements in all relations for the arts – something that is not yet usual practice for artists and gallerists. The guide also makes a case for ensuring artists are paid in every circumstance possible to encourage the professionalisation of creative work and the betterment of artists’ livelihoods. The guide is aimed at all practitioners across South Africa and will be available online. VISIT THE VANSA WEBSITE TO DOWNLOAD YOUR FREE COPY NOW. Workshops will be held across South Africa where copies of the Guide will be given to participants. These Workshops are also free and will give attendees a better understanding of how to use the guide. The workshops are hosted by partners of VANSA throughout South Africa. Workshop dates and venues are listed below. The workshops are supported by the National Arts Council. About the product Number 492 of an edition limited 740 copies, signed by James Walton and the three other contributors. 4to; original blue boards, lettered in gilt on spine and upper cover; pictorial dustwrapper; endpaper plan; pp. xi + (i) + 96, incl. index; several maps, monochrome illustrations after contemporary photographs and artwork; line drawings. Dustwrapper and edges slightly rubbed; sporadic, light foxing. Very good condition."The owners of the Josephine Mill were people who played a very important part in the development of Cape Town and South Africa, and two of them, Jacob Letterstedt and Anders Ohlsson, were pioneers in the establishment of the milling and brewing industries in the country. Their activities in the political and social fields were also far-reaching. The book, however, is not confined to the Josephine Mill and its owners. It provides a historical record of every water-mill which existed in Cape Town and vicinity and, as Newlands has always been a centre of the brewing industry, it therefore deals with the growth of that industry at the Cape. Most of the ninety illustrations are line drawings and half-tones which have not been published previously or which have been produced specially for the book. The text similarly includes a great deal of historical information about the Cape, and Newlands in particular, which has not been published before or is to be found in printed sources not readily accessible. It covers a time-span of over three hundred years from the first burgher settlement along the Liesbeek River to the present day." The Josephine Mill and Its Owners. The story of Milling and Brewing at the Cape of Good Hope (James Walton, and others)

We produce excellent swimmers with a distinctive stroke and style developed in every swimmer from novice to advanced. My program gradually nurtures young swimmers into becoming strong capable swimmers. The program will develop not only the fun and safety aspects of swimming but also the knowledge that the benefits will contribute to an ongoing healthier and fitter lifestyle. Each group of learners is taught swimming, listening and social development skills in a clean heated pool throughout the year. Pupils mix with other children, learn many skills in space sharing and developing an affinity with the water that will remain with them throughout their lives. Pupils are regularly assessed and placed in classes with children of the same level. I know swimming is one of the most important skills you can offer your child. I have been given this opportunity to introduce you to my Swim School which could become part of your child’s education. I urge all parents to give their children the opportunity to learn this skill professionally. Visit www.trishpolisswim.co.za to find out more.
