About the product Signed on the title page by the author James Walton. An edition limited to 200 copies. 4to; laminated pictorial boards; pp. vi + 47; photographs; line drawings. Fine condition."During the years 1943 and 1944 I was stationed at Mhow in Central India and this afforded me ample opportunity to visit and record the activities of several of the depressed classes living in the surrounding area, which was formerly the kingdom of Malwa. From the 8th century onwards Malwa was under the rule of the Paramara kings but in the beginning of the 13th century they were overthrown by the Musalmans, who commenced to establish themselves in the splendid Vindlyan City of Mandu.. The following account of some of the depressed classes of Malwa was written largely in 1944 and presents only the conditions at that time. No attempt has been made to bring it up-to-date. All the photographs were taken by James Walton with a Box Brownie camera and all drawings were made at the same time."

The book provides a portrait of her life and gives an account of historical developments between 1929 and 1945. The changes in Germany after Hitler took power in 1933 and daily life in occupied Holland after 1940 forced people to make a choice: collaborate, resist or remain passive. Many photographs in this book appear for the first time, making this a unique publication. Softcover edition. Dutch/English text. 140 pages. Illustrated throughout. Good condition. Tracked postage is R65.00.

2008 first edition hardcover with dust jacket and 344 pages in good condition. R65 postage in SA. The fifth volume of Alexander McCall Smith's wonderful serial novels set in Edinburgh's New Town To the casual observer, the great enlightened city of Edinburgh, home of no-nonsense philosophers and cream teas, might appear immune to the rollercoaster of strong emotions. But at 44 Scotland Street, as Matthew and Elspeth embark on the risky enterprise of married love, the raffish portrait painter Angus Lordie has a premonition of disaster. And soon enough Irene Pollock is shocked to learn that her small son Bertie harbours a highly unsuitable ambition; the gloriously vain Bruce discovers a wrinkle and confronts rejection; and Angus finds himself facing the grave consequences of unbridled bliss, not to mention a large Glaswegian gangster bearing gifts... Biographical Notes Following a distinguished career as a Professor of Medical Law, Alexander McCall Smith has turned to writing full-time. He is the author of over sixty books on a wide array of subjects, and his books have been translated into forty-five languages. He lives in Edinburgh with his wife.
