Stellenbosch (Western Cape)
A small piece of cape town history Small (17x10x2cm) tray from the Civil Servants Club (Cape Town, founded in 1858) by Gladwin, Sheffield (Embassy plating). No silver marks apart from "Embassy" which is a plate mark on its own. The Embassy works factory Gladwin produced Embassy brand between 1926 and 1936. Since 1896 the Civil Servants Club moved from its premises in Church square to share the new premises with the City club of Cape Town in Queen Victoria str. It is not entirely clear how HM Civil Servants used this object, but they certainly poked it with something shar around the crest a couple of times. The marks are clearly seen under small magnification.
