Hitman Anders and the Meaning of It All by Jonas Jonasson. There are 3 available at R60 each   A madcap new novel from the #1 internationally bestselling author of  The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window  and  The Girl Who Saved the King of Sweden Hitman Anders, recently out of prison, is doing small jobs for the big gangsters. Then his life takes an unexpected turn when he meets a female Protestant vicar (who also happens to be an atheist), and a homeless receptionist at a former brothel which is now a one-star hotel. The three join forces and concoct an unusual business plan based on Hitman Anders’ skills and his fearsome reputation. The vicar and receptionist will organize jobs for a group of gangsters, and will attract customers using the tabloids’ love of lurid headlines. The perfect plan—if it weren’t for Hitman Anders’ curiosity about the meaning of it all. In conversations with the vicar, he turns to Jesus and, against all odds, Jesus answers him! The vicar can’t believe what’s happening. When Hitman Anders turns to religion, the lucrative business is in danger, and the vicar and the receptionist have to find a new plan, quick. Fast-paced and sparky, the novel follows these bizarre but loveable characters on their quest to create a New Church, with all of Sweden’s gangsters hunting them. Along the way, it explores the consequences of fanaticism, the sensationalist press, the entrepreneurial spirit and straightforward human stupidity—and underlying all of it, the tenuous hope that it’s never too late to start again.

Bob Buford believes the second half of your life can be better than the first. Much better. But first, you need time to figure out what you want to do with the rest of your life. In Halftime, Buford focuses on this important time of transition-the time when, as he says, a person moves beyond the first half of the game of life. It's halftime, a time of revitalization and for catching a new vision for living the second half, the half where life can be lived at its most rewarding. As Buford explains, "My passion is to multiply all that God has given me, and in the process, give it back." Features of this newly updated and expanded 20th Anniversary edition include a foreword by Jim Collins, the bestselling author of Good to Great; new questions for reflection or discussion at the end of each chapter; brand new "halftime" stories of men and women enjoying a second half of significance; specific halftime assignments to guide readers into their second-half mission; an essay by Bob on "The Wisdom of Peter Drucker"; a special update from the author on how the halftime movement is growing nationally, and links to outstanding resources. Features Summary When all you've done seems to matter less and your heart craves more meaning, when you're entering the second half of life and unsure what your calling is for this season... In 1975 Kapuscinski's employers sent him to Angola to cover the civil war that had broken out after independence. For months he watched as Luanda and then the rest of the country collapsed into a civil war that was in the author's words 'sloppy, dogged and cruel'. In his account, Kapuscinski demonstrates an extraordinary capacity to describe and to explain the individual meaning of grand political abstractions. About the product 400 x 290 mm; laminated pictorial wraps; pp. xiv + 157, incl. index; profusely illustrated with contemporary photographs; map. Trace of foxing to edges. Near-fine condition."The War Reporter is an imaginary newspaper. There was no single Republican or Boer newspaper that was published on either a daily, weekly or monthly basis for the whole duration of the Anglo-Boer War. The'editor','reporters'and'correspondents'of The War Reporter never actually existed. The aim was to publish an account of the course of the war in its totality - meaning not merely the military confrontations. The format represents the way in which the war could have been reported in a pro-Boer weekly newspaper (monthly from September 1900), published in the South African Republic as the war progressed. One of the most formidable challenges that face historians is to understand the zeitgeist or atmosphere of the period they write about. The same is true for readers of history books. A failure to understand the situation at the time makes it virtually impossible to understand the major events, the decisions taken by the major participants, the reactions of the ordinary people and the contradictions of the past in the context in which they occurred. This was my biggest challenge as I attempted to portray the world and the views of the Boers as the Anglo-Boer War progressed. The book is first and foremost an attempt to answer the question: how did the Boers experience the Anglo-Boer War?"- Author's Introduction. Books: The War Reporter. The Anglo-Boer War through the eyes of the Burghers
