Book and wrapper in very good condition - published by Hutchinson in 1972. >>> A bittersweet coming of age account of John Bowers' year and a half at a highly unconventional writer's colony run by James Jones and Lowney Handy in Marshall, Illinois. The Colony. It was 1952 and James Jones had just published from Here to Eternity, a huge best seller that had taken the country by storm. His larger-than-life mentor, a formidable Midwest housewife by the name of Lowney Handy, set up a "writer's colony" in Marshall, Illinois, funded in large part by the proceeds of Eternity, to train an odd assortment of rules: no women; members literally copied pages from masters such as Hemingway, Fitzgerald, and Dos Passos; no radios, newspapers, or TV; meals were Spartan; a neophyte moved from a tent to a barracks-like room if he abided by the rules; mail was scrutinized as in the Soviet Union; about every month members were let loose in Terre Haute for brothel time in Cherry Street and epic toots. *N.B.* If you buy more than one book from me you only pay R 6 postage on each additional book – see what else I have to offer, it might be worth your while.

About the product These are the first two volumes in the'African Hunting Reprint Series.'Text facsimile reprint of the two-volume John Murray 2nd edition of 1850, with a new introduction by Professor James A. Casada. Two 8vo volumes; original brown boards with gilt lettering to spine, and gilt elephant device to upper board in each case; pictorial dustwrappers; pp. xvii + xv + (i) + 388, (iv) + 381; plates, + route map in first volume. Dustwrappers slightly rubbed and edgeworn; a little foxing to endpapers, edges and reverse of dustwrappers, occasional fox spot elsewhere. Very good condition.'A particularly fine example of Victorian sporting literature, the book was markedly successful and ran to many editions. Gordon-Cumming writes of his hunting expedition which started from Grahamstown in October 1843 and which took him through countryside teeming with game -"not with herds, but with'one vast herd'of springboks; as far as the eye could strain."- to the Orange River and Griqualand West where he met Oswell, and, at Kuruman, Robert Moffat and, soon after, David Livingstone. He appears to have hunted every species of South African fauna and to have indulged himself in the sport to an extent almost unique even amongst the mighty hunters of Africa. The narrative is valuable for its description of the country and its inhabitants, and for its zoological and botanical notes.'

The editors, both noted commentators on Aquinas, bring together a group of influential scholars to demonstrate the ways that Anglican, Lutheran, and Reformed thinkers have analyzed and used Thomas through the centuries. Later chapters also explore how today's Protestants might appropriate the work of Aquinas to address a number of contemporary theological and philosophical issues. The authors set the record straight and disavow the widespread impression that Aquinas is an irrelevant figure for the history of Protestant thought. This assumption has dominated not only Protestant historiography but also Roman Catholic accounts of the Reformation and Protestant intellectual life. The book opens the possibility for contemporary reception, engagement, and critique and even intra-Protestant relations and includes: Information on the fruitful appropriation of Aquinas in Anglican, Lutheran, and Reformed theologians over the centuries Important essays from leading scholars on the teachings of Aquinas New perspectives on Thomas Aquinas's position as a towering figure in the history of Christian thought Aquinas Among the Protestant is a ground-breaking and interdenominational work for students and scholars of Thomas Aquinas and theology more generally. The Forgotten by Clive Cussler. In Paradise, nothing is what it seems... Army Special Agent John Puller is the best there is. A combat veteran, Puller is the man the U.S. Army relies on to investigate the toughest crimes facing the nation. Now he has a new case-but this time, the crime is personal: His aunt has been found dead in Paradise, Florida. A picture-perfect town on Florida's Gulf Coast, Paradise thrives on the wealthy tourists and retirees drawn to its gorgeous weather and beaches. The local police have ruled his aunt's death an unfortunate, tragic accident. But just before she died, she mailed a letter to Puller's father, telling him that beneath its beautiful veneer, Paradise is not all it seems to be. What Puller finds convinces him that his aunt's death was no accident... and that the palm trees and sandy beaches of Paradise may hide a conspiracy so shocking that some will go to unthinkable lengths to make sure the truth is never revealed. About the product Signed by the author on inside of upper cover. Introduction by Roger Boyle. 210 x 148 mm; laminated pictorial wrappers; pp. 80; line drawings by the author. Near fine condition."'This finely observed and moving collection'wrote Lord Lichfield of Paul Wigmore's previous book of verse, It's funny about the trees. And Penelope Betjeman said:'He is by far the best poet of the John Betjeman school'. Mr Wigmore has excelled himself in this major new collection, which he has also illustrated. It covers the first 21 years of his life, from short-trouser days in Harrow and Wealdstone, through long-trouser early working experiences in factory and shop, and on to his national service in the RAF. His ability to crystallise the pangs of suburban childhood, adolescence and early manhood has not been bettered. There is a sensitivity and honesty about this writing which will strike a chord in many readers."
