British Shorthair cats were originally found in the alleys of 19th century British Cities. A man called Harrison Weir loved the British street cat so much that he selected some of the hardiest and strongest, bred them and almost single-handedly created the British Shorthair. The British Shorthair became an officially acknowledged breed by 1889 and went on to become one of the most popular breeds in cat shows at that time and still are today.

Note: New applications have been put on hold until January 31. Happy holidays from all the cats at CAPS. Featured cat: Caleb is as cute as a bug's ear! He loves to throw himself onto his back and be scratched on the tummy. He was found outside, all lost and alone and very afraid of the howling coyotes at night.. Thank heavens, he was seen by a kind lady who contacted Annapolis Animal Control. Now he is in CAPS' care and hoping for the best forever home ever. He is a funny, fun-loving little man who would love an active home with children to play with. A real cutie!
