I celebrated my life spent on earth few days ago and upon reflection I realise just how many of us adults carry wounded children within us. Our responsibilities and everything else that we do to keep busy has covered up our childhood trauma and as a result we are blind to our childhood trauma and because we cannot touch it, we simply cannot see it. The levels of childhood trauma are different from person to person and it is the subtle trauma in the forms of struggling with fitting in with our peer groups, parental neglect or even abandonment were we tend to miss it! We are more open to recognising and calling out trauma once it's reached severe levels such as (obvious) abuse. As adults, we cannot take away the fact that we were once children at one time of our lives and just because we have grown older it doesn’t mean the children within us vanish. It is in adulthood were we should awaken our inner child from the unconscious parts of us. ✅We should (seek to) be proactive in fostering better and healthier relationships with ourselves and our 'past' so as to set free that which has been suppressed and respond to situations or challenges from a place of LOVE especially were our own children are concerned. -My birthday wish is to create safe environments for partnering, trust and connectedness which is what I have found to be the missing link with most parents who wish to stop power struggles and parent differently from how they were raised. - I have reserved your share of the cup cake --Follow on Instagram / Facebook @ Conscious_Thoko: - For safe environments for ourselves as parents and for our children to thrive! An hour later, a late-shift postman is walking wearily home when he hears a faint cry. He finds the newspaper parcel and discovers the newborn, white-cold and whimpering, inside. After being rushed to hospital and against all odds, the baby survives. He's baptised by the hospital chaplain as Richard. This item is sold brand new. It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 4 - 8 working days Advocate Thuli Madonsela has achieved in her seven years as Public Protector what few accomplish in a lifetime; her legacy and contribution cannot be over-stated. In her final days in office she compiled the explosive State Capture report and, before that, the report on President Jacob Zuma's Nkandla residence. Praised and vilified in equal measures, Madonsela has frequently found herself at centre stage in the increasingly fractious South African political scene. Yet, despite the intense media scrutiny, Madonsela remains something of an enigma. Who is this soft-spoken woman who stood up to state corruption? Where did she develop her views and resolve? This book attempts to answer these questions, and others, by exploring many aspects of Madonsela's life: her childhood years and family, her involvement in student politics, her contribution to the constitution, her life in law. Madonsela once described her role as Public Protector as being akin to that of the Venda traditional spiritual female leader, the Makhadzi, who whispers truth to the ruler. When the sounds of the exchanges between the ruler and the Makhadzi grow loud, Madonsela said, that is when the whispering has failed. No Longer Whispering to Power is about Thuli Madonsela's tenure as Public Protector, during which the whisper grew into a cry. It is the story of the South African people's attempt to hold power to account through the Office of the Public Protector. More significantly, this important book stands as a record of the crucial work Madonsela has done, always acting without fear or favour. Paperback. English. Harvill Secker. 2007. In fair/good condition. The most important things are hardest to find words for, her father once said. That's why people make music. When Ana returns to the ramshackle cottage of her youth in the seaside village of Noordhoek, near Cape Town, she does so with the intention of sorting out her father's affairs. It soon becomes clear that more is at stake. After a decade in London, where she has failed to find work as a musician, her return to South Africa puts further distance into an already strained marriage, not only because she is out of reach, but because Michael, her husband, has lost faith in the country. Quick to welcome her is her neighbour, Franz van der Veer, an architect searching for redemption. This is further complicated by the arrival of his eccentric brother, Daniel. Against a tangle of childhood memories, scarred histories and renewed hope, Ana finally starts to confront the death of Sam, her Irish luthier father, and with it, questions of guilt and belonging. Lyrical and beautifully told, 'Quarter Tones' is a story about music and love and loss.

About the product Signed by the author on inside of upper cover. Introduction by Roger Boyle. 210 x 148 mm; laminated pictorial wrappers; pp. 80; line drawings by the author. Near fine condition."'This finely observed and moving collection'wrote Lord Lichfield of Paul Wigmore's previous book of verse, It's funny about the trees. And Penelope Betjeman said:'He is by far the best poet of the John Betjeman school'. Mr Wigmore has excelled himself in this major new collection, which he has also illustrated. It covers the first 21 years of his life, from short-trouser days in Harrow and Wealdstone, through long-trouser early working experiences in factory and shop, and on to his national service in the RAF. His ability to crystallise the pangs of suburban childhood, adolescence and early manhood has not been bettered. There is a sensitivity and honesty about this writing which will strike a chord in many readers."

Wrappers foxed and a little worn; earlier owner's name signed on front free endpaper; some fox spots. Good condition. Afrikaans text.
