The droppings boards are not retractable but the shutters at the back allow for the droppings to be scraped out very easily. The droppings boards and the perches can also be lifted out of the house. There are hinged nest box rails for the birds to jump onto before they get in the nest box, these can be hooked up to shut the birds off the nests. There are sliding glass windows at the front of the house for light and ventilation. There is a large pop hole on either end of the house and a door on one end. Two tier nest boxes are also an option to double the amount of nest boxes in the house..
