It was a case of unlawful arrest, detention and malicious prosecution. The story made headline news in the Daily Dispatch in July 2013 involving the subsequent murder of a prison warden. The plaintiffs were caught in a suspected stolen vehicle(the owner of which was missing) and later found to be murdered. The plaintiffs and four other guys were all arrested and charged with murder and kidnapping. JUDGEMENT The respondents (Minister of Police & The National Director of Public Prosecution) were found liable for damages suffered by the plaintiffs consequent upon their unlawful arrest and detention and malicious prosecution.
