Port Elizabeth (Eastern Cape)
This BILLY CLACK No. 51 folding camera is definitely an antique as it belonged to my grand-mother in the 1920's. It takes sixteen 4.5 x 6 cm pictures on 120 film. It has a periscopic doublet lens with three aperture settings (f/8.8, f/11 and f/16) which are achieved by switching between fixed-size apertures, not with the iris. It has a simple 'I' and 'B' shutter, and view finders for portrait and landscape mode, and a built-in yellow filter. The finder on the portrait view finder is slightly scratched, but this does not hamper the view. It has a winding key to advance the film, and two red windows on the back of the camera. The leatherette covering on the camera and the concertina part are in perfect condition, and all parts are in working order. The brown leather carrying case is in good condition but one side of the strap has broken off from the main case, and needs to be re-attached.
